Business Info Line Assists Small Businesses

February 3, 2009 -- Toronto, Ontario -- Today, the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism outlined new measures concerning the launch of the Business Info Line, a new toll free telephone service for Ontario small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

"Small and medium sized enterprises are the engine of the Canadian economy. Their success fuels economic growth and job creation," said Minister Moore. "The Government of Canada is pleased to collaborate with the Province of Ontario on the Business Info Line. This new toll-free number makes it easier for businesses to find the assistance they need to make Canada more innovative and competitive."

Minister Moore outlined the new measures during the Economic Developers Council of Ontario Inc. (EDCO) 53rd annual conference and showcase, which is being held from Feb. 2-4 in downtown Toronto.

EDCO is an independent, non-profit association of persons engaged promoting economic development. Its membership includes over 600 economic development practitioners across a variety of professions and as all levels of the public and private sector.

The Government of Canada is supporting small and-medium sized businesses, which are the backbone of the Canadian economy, accounting for 98 percent of all businesses in Canada. Canada's Economic Action Plan is working to help stimulate the economy and small and medium-sized businesses drive our economic success. Funding provided through Canada's Economic Action Plan is being used to provide business information services through the Canada Business Network. In addition, the Government of Canada has introduced a number of initiatives to help businesses innovate, create jobs and generate wealth in every region across the country.

Rob Moore is the Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism and the MP for Fundy Royal.
