Rob Moore Welcomes Albert County Youth
March 18, 2010 -- Ottawa, Ontario -- The Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism, was pleased to welcome nine young students from Albert County to his Ottawa office as part of their visit to the nation’s capital for four days of leadership training.
The students, members of the Albert County Action Team (ACAT), are in Ottawa to participate in a conference put on by TYPS (Town Youth Participation Strategies) Youth Centres des Jeunes Canada, the Students Commission and the Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement.
The ACAT was formed by Albert County youths in 2008. The group has a 14-member all-youth board and is advised by a handful of adults in the community.
The group's goal is to help create vibrant and inclusive communities, where individuals can work together in a safe environment.
As part of the trip to Ottawa, Minister Moore also organized a tour of Parliament for the youth, as well as admission to question period.
The nine students are: Joseph Elderkin, David Parker, Alex Brown, Hillary Hopper, Lauren Jonah, Celia Rossiter, Shannon Butland, Lydia Hamilton and Priscilla Hamilton. They were accompanied by adult supervisors, Tammy Keiver and Krista Cormier.
