Silver Pioneers Seniors Club receives Federal Funding

April 14, 2009 -- Murray Corner, New Brunswick -- Mr. Rob Moore, Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal, today announced federal funding to improve the facilities and equipment of the Silver Pioneers Seniors Club in Murray Corner.

"The Government of Canada is proud to support seniors across our country in building and strengthening communities," said Mr. Moore. "This funding will enable the Silver Pioneers Seniors Club to improve its facilities and continue offering its valuable programs."

MP Moore, joined by MLA Mike Olscamp at the event, announced $18,129 in federal funding for the Silver Pioneers Seniors Club. The funding falls under the Capital Assistance component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which helps organizations that support seniors to replace outdated equipment or undertake needed renovations.

"Our government continues to deliver for seniors," said Mr. Moore. "This year we're making more than $11 million available for over 900 projects across Canada this year through the Capital Assistance program."

Eligible activities for Capital Assistance include repairs or renovations to existing seniors' community facilities, or the purchase or replacement of equipment and furnishings required for community programs and activities for seniors.

With the two other components of the New Horizons for Seniors Program—Community Participation and Leadership and Elder Abuse Awareness—the overall budget of the Program is $35 million per year.

Since its beginning, the New Horizons for Seniors Program has funded over 5,000 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada.

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
