Government of Canada Freezes Fees in Fundy National Park

May 9, 2009 -- Alma, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore was pleased to announce today a fee freeze at Fundy National Park over the next two years.

"Our government recognizes the rich heritage we have in our National Parks," said MP Moore. "In these difficult financial times, we're ensuring that a visit to our Parks remains affordable."

This announcement is part of a federal government initiative to freeze fees in National Parks across the country. The freeze, effective immediately, applies to fees for entrance and camping, as well as some basic services, in all national parks and national historic sites managed by Parks Canada.

For individuals, the 2008 rates will stay in place until April 1, 2011. For the travel trade, the 2009 rates now in effect will be frozen until April 1, 2012.

"Fundy National Park is an internationally-renowned tourist destination," said Mr. Moore. "This fee freeze will encourage people from all over to visit the Park, to witness its beauty and learn about this spectacular Canadian treasure."

The Government of Canada has made significant investments in its national parks this year. In Budget 2009, Canada's Economic Action Plan, the federal government announced it will provide $280 million to Parks Canada for the improvement and protection of Canada's national parks and national historic sites.

These measures will not only increase the number of visitors to these destinations, they will create and maintain local construction jobs, strengthening the economy.

"Our government is making investments from coast to coast to preserve our rich heritage, improving facilities, enhancing access, and creating a more enjoyable experience for visitors," said Mr. Moore.

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
