MP Rob Moore Announces Federal Investment For St. Martins Wharf
July 2, 2009 -- St. Martins, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore today announced a federal investment in the fishing industry in the Village of St. Martins. Through Small Craft Harbour program, the Government of Canada is providing $530,000 for the project.
"The fishing industry has played an important role in our country from its very beginnings," said Mr. Moore, "and this industry remains important today. Our government’s investment will strengthen the St. Martins fishery and support the families and businesses that rely on it."
The Small Craft Harbours Program, introduced in Canada’s Economic Action Plan, provides $200 million over two years to communities across Canada. This funding will accelerate harbour repair and maintenance as well as undertake dredging projects.
The projects enabled by this funding are undertaken in close collaboration with the harbour authorities that manage and operate the facilities.
The federal government’s investment to St. Martins will support repairs and reconstruction to the local wharf.
"Our government is committed to sustaining vital economic activity in small communities," added Mr. Moore. "The work enabled by this investment will help ensure the St. Martins harbour continues supporting this local economy."
