Federal Infrastructure Funding To Improve Facilities in the Village of Hillsborough

August 25, 2009 -- Hillsborough, New Brunswick -- Today, MP Rob Moore was pleased to announce upgrades to drinking water and waste water infrastructure in the Village of Hillsborough.

"In addition to brining important improvements to local services, this project will create local jobs, helping to stimulate economic developments in the region," said MP Moore.

The governments of Canada committed $1,285,633 towards the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The project will address Hillsborough’s longstanding need for reliable waste water and potable water infrastructure through the construction of a new lagoon and two new production wells. In addition, a UV disinfection system will be added to the new wells to meet provincial guidelines.

Funding for the project is being delivered under the Building Canada Fund (BCF), the Government of Canada's flagship infrastructure program, which addresses local and regional infrastructure needs while also advancing national priorities that are important to Canadians: a stronger economy, a cleaner environment, and better communities.

This project is one of 32 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $48 million, which was announced on July 24 of this year.

"Our government has made major investments in developing much needed infrastructure. Not only does this investment help local communities, but modern, reliable infrastructure attracts business and will create jobs today and for years to come," said MP Moore.

The government of Canada has taken steps to advance projects and flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in New Brunswick communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons. As a result of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the amount of federal funding available to provinces, territories and municipalities for infrastructure projects will hit more than $18 billion over the next two years.
