Infrastructure in the Village of Sussex Corner Receives Federal Funding
August 26, 2009 -- Sussex Corner, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore today announced federal funding to upgrade water and wastewater infrastructure in the Village of Sussex Corner.
"The federal government recognizes the importance of smaller communities in Canada. That is why we are committed to making significant investments in their infrastructure, investments that will help build communities and create local jobs," said Mr. Moore.
The project will provide municipal water and sewer services to residents along Route No. 111 and in the East Coast Village Home Park of Sussex Corner. Upgrades will provide a reliable supply of good quality drinking water and will reduce the risk of surface and groundwater pollution by eliminating an underperforming wastewater stabilization pond.
The government of Canada will invest $270,014 in the project.
This project is one of 32 across the province that will get underway quickly, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment of more than $48 million, which was announced on July 24 of this year.
Funding for the project is being delivered under the Building Canada Fund (BCF), the Government of Canada's flagship infrastructure program, which addresses local and regional infrastructure needs while also advancing national priorities that are important to Canadians: a stronger economy, a cleaner environment, and better communities.
"Our government is committed to investing in important infrastructure projects, which will ensure that our province and country have the capacity to grow and prosper," added Mr. Moore.
The government of Canada has taken steps to advance projects and distribute money faster for targeted infrastructure projects in New Brunswick communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons. As a result of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the amount of federal funding available to provinces, territories and municipalities for infrastructure projects will hit more than $18 billion over the next two years.
