MP Rob Moore Celebrates Grand Opening of the Maritime Motor Sports Hall of Fame

October 16, 2009 -- Petitcodiac, New Brunswick -- MP Rob Moore was in Petitcodiac today to celebrate the grand opening of the Maritime Motor Sports Hall of Fame, a year-round centre that will showcase the history of motorsports in the region.

"The Government of Canada is committed to supporting projects that enhance economic opportunities for communities like Petitcodiac," said MP Moore. "Our investment in the Maritime Motor Sports Hall of Fame has helped the village build an exciting new centre, which presents the history of all competitive and recreational motor sports in the region. Investments such as this continue to provide timely and targeted stimulus to communities across Canada."

The Maritime Motor Sports Hall of Fame is expected to increase sales and employment for local businesses as it draws more visitors to the village and the surrounding area. It is estimated that this project will draw a minimum of 10,500 visitors in its first full year of operation. This number is expected to increase to over 11,500 by the third year. It will also attract motor sports enthusiasts from other parts of Canada and the United States, which will have a significantly positive impact on the economy of the Village of Petitcodiac.

The Government of Canada, through ACOA's Innovative Communities Fund, invested $551,500 in the project. The Province of New Brunswick provided $250,000 and the Village of Petitcodiac is contributing $185,000. An additional $50,000 comes from the Maritime Motor Sports Hall of Fame Inc. and $131,606 from fundraising initiatives.

Rob Moore is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and the MP for Fundy Royal.
