Federal Government Support for Recreational Facilities in St. Martins

November 7, 2009 -- St. Martins, New Brunswick -- Today, MP Rob Moore was pleased to announce funding for the Four Seasons Complex in St. Martins.

"The activities that take place in this complex are helping to keep this community vibrant and strong. Each winter, hundreds of people, young and old, lace up their skates for hockey and public skating," said MP Moore. "That is why I am very pleased to announce funding on behalf of the federal government, which will help with important upgrades that allow the facilities to be enjoyed for years to come."

The project will support the Village of St. Martins with the upgrading of the ice making capabilities at the Four Seasons Complex. The installation of a specialized refrigeration system will improve the quality and reliability of the rink's ice surface during the winter months.

The federal government is providing $80,000 towards the $240,000 project. The funding comes as part of the government's Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) Program.

Canada's Economic Action Plan is providing $500 million over two years for the RInC Program to support the upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities across the country. RInC is delivered in Atlantic Canada by ACOA. Under RInC, the Government of Canada will fund up to 33 per cent of eligible costs. Projects are selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness, and must be completed before March 31, 2011.

For details on project eligibility and how to submit an application, please refer to the program backgrounder on ACOA's website at www.acoa-apeca.gc.ca
